No matter what you are looking for from yester year, Barclay’s Antiques and Collectables would have it. In its new home at Emerald Bank Leisure Land, South Shepparton, there is a huge space full of furniture, indoor and outdoor pieces, cabinets full of treasures from days gone by, glass in all colours, vases, kitchen ware, sort after signs, teddies and dolls, books and everything in between.
June and Frank Barclay have 40 years experience in buying and selling antiques and collectables, 25 years in the Greater Shepparton area, and the couple have seen many changes over the years in what customers are looking for and how trends affect what people buy in their shop.
They have sold more than 10 000 pieces on ebay and have been regulars at many Shepparton markets, Violet Town Market and the Shepparton and Bendigo swap meets.
June has always aspired to opening a store at the popular Emerald Bank complex and after some negotiation has opened her doors as a very welcomed addition to the mix of shops and attractions at the tourist precinct.
“I have always believed that our antiques and collectables would be a great addition to Emerald Bank where hopefully we can be a bit of a drawcard for tourists and local customers. I have believed for a long while that what we offer is a good fit for the people who visit Emerald Bank with plenty of stock to browse, and buy, while they relax,” June says.
June is a very good listener too, as many of the visitors to her shop spend hours reminiscing about the items that bring back many childhood memories , or funny family tales. “You are never too old to learn about our past and as I learn I can also pass on much of that history to our customers”.
